A Silobela woman was arrested after allegedly strangling her newborn baby just after giving birth on Wednesday because she did not know the paternity of the baby.
Simkoliso Sibanda is reported to have given birth on her own and decided to kill the baby since she did not know the paternity of the baby.
Sources close to investigations allege Sibanda was seen committing the crime by neighbours hence she is in police custody assisting with investigations.
“The woman was seen by her neighbours strangling the baby and digging the ground who alerted the police, who acted swiftly.”
She, however told the police that she did not know who was responsible for her pregnancy since she had 3 partners and was once a victim of rape.
Sibanda’s matter is set be heard today.
